Over the last few years, I’ve become much more serious about my skin care routine. I cringe now when I think back to my early twenties and how often I would go to bed without even washing my face (gross I know!). I definitely have become much more disciplined about skin care, and now more than invest in quality products that actually deliver results. I’ve been obsessed with Rodial’s skincare and beauty line. Rodial is a celebrity-loved skincare and beauty brand that offers high-performance products that have unique and powerful ingredients. I’ve recently tried a few of their cult favorites, and I’m IN LOVE!
Sometimes you just want your outfit to be simple. Though I’m not a huge subscriber to the whole “capsule wardrobe” concept, I still appreciate classic pieces that you can easily pull out of your closet again and again and will holdover for multiple seasons. I think building a solid base of simple classic pieces will provide a foundation base for you to play on with more fun pieces. You’ll also have plenty of great options for when you want a simple breezy look as I’m wearing here.
Wild fires have been creating a haze all over Portland for over a week now. Not great during the day, but a nice side effect has been a stunning bright orange sunset each evening. Late summer is when those beautiful burnt colors come out everywhere. August is that special time when summer isn’t quite almost over but also not just beginning. It’s the time to cherish summer at it’s peak and really live in the moment.
I thought I was so done with overalls. I’m honestly surprised how long the trend has stuck around… it’s basically been running strong for years now. I bought my first pair of overalls two full years ago. Who knows… maybe overalls will be a trend like skinny jeans and just never end.
These overalls came out a few weeks ago, and as soon as I tried them on I was in love with overalls again. They are a bit stretchy, so they hug curves really well and show off the figure in the best way. They aren’t too stretchy, though. They definitely have a good amount of structure which helps hold everything in place and creates a put together look.
These gingham pants might seem a little bit over the top, but once you try them on you won’t think twice. They work on just about any figure emphasizing all the right spots. They can be a little hard to style since the gingham makes such a statement, but the key is to go with a solid top. I actually spent a lot of time considering and reconsidering what top to wear for this look, and I ultimately went with a simple white cotton tee. Sometimes the simplest solution is the best solution. I used my pink metallic loafers to give the outfit some color. If you went with a white or black top, a bright shoe is the way to go to incorporate that pop of color. Another good option would be a red loafer. I also played with some fun and slightly understated accessories from my current Rocksbox set. The long necklace added a little bit of sophistication. And finally I added my new favorite item, a lieutenant hat, to pull the whole look together.
I don’t know about you, but to me the world of intimates has been changing so much the last couple years. Bralettes and a “less is more” style seem to be taking over, but this is a change I honestly haven’t been fully embracing. I work in a professional office, so having adequate support and coverage are important. I remember wearing a minimal coverage bralette to work once, and a female director could not stop looking at my chest during a meeting. And not in a good way. It’s because there wasn’t enough coverage with the bralette and my outline of my nipples were visible. Of course I wasn’t trying to be sexy at work (just wearing a comfortable bralette), but it was not a good professional look. That said, some new trends simply aren’t practical for real life.
I’m so happy I discovered Soma Intimates. They have amazing quality bras, panties, and loungewear that are perfect for everyday modern women and real life. The brand values self-respect and understands that smart is sexy. The bras fit super well and are made with high-quality fabrics that do what they’re supposed to. Even better, they have a selection of gorgeous sexy pieces as well as tons of options for practical everyday wear. I’m excited to share with you my awesome experience getting fitted at my local Soma boutique, what I took home, and how those pieces translate to my everyday life.
Sailing is one of my favorite activities, especially during the summer. I love getting some sun and a chance to swim right off the boat on these hot July days. This Romwe swimsuit is perfect because it’s comfortable and affordable (on sale for only $13.99!). I love mixing prints on suits, especially mixing a solid print with a pattern, and I thought the nude top was a great compliment to the palm print pattern. This suit has a sexy cut that’s really flattering on the bust. Shop the Romwe suit here.
It’s amazing how much I’ve learned and grown with almost one year of blogging under my belt. What I love most is the connections I’ve made with other like-minded people. I’m really inspired by the creative community, and I love being a part of it. One of the most important ways to be creative in blogging is photography. This was something that was a big challenge for me starting out, as I really didn’t know much about photography at all. While I’m certainly no amazing photographer, I’m definitely pleased with how much I’ve grown in this area the last year. If you go back and look at some of my early posts you’ll see why. I’ve learned the technical aspects of shooting in manual, and also a few composition tricks. I find when I go on shoots now, I’m thinking more about the creative aspect of how to make my photos looks more interesting rather than just fretting over the basics. And while I’m still not the greatest in this regard, I’m a lot more comfortable in front of the camera than when I first started out. I was so proud of this shoot and how many photos turned out. It’s a little bit of a photo bomb, so hopefully you don’t get bored. 😉 Anyway, as cliche as it sounds, it goes to show that you can improve as you put in the time and hard work.
If you’re like me, you love to hit up new jewelry trends, not to mention subscription services. And sometimes it’s important to have jewelry that’s really nice… like when you’re attending a wedding or even to adding a little glitz to your work outfit. Rocksbox is a subscription service that is the perfect combination of new jewelry trends and quality-made designer pieces. Rocksbox features some amazing designers including Kate Spade, Kendra Scott, House of Harlow, and more. Read more to find out how a subscription works, see how I styled a piece from my first box, and receive a code for your free first month of Rocksbox with no obligation to continue if you don’t want to. Although, I think you’ll be so delighted by your first box, like I was, you’ll definitely want to keep it going.
There are some trends that I tend to avoid because I think I won’t be able to pull them off. Crop tops are definitely one of them. I was honestly surprised that this came back around as a trend this season. I had always thought of crop tops as on one of those nineties trends that could never come back because so few women would be comfortable wearing it nowadays. That said, a lot of nineties trends have come back successfully, and I have seen so many cute sets this season that incorporate a crop top. I was thrilled when I tried this set from SheIn because it is super flattering. It has all the right details: high-wasted bottoms that fit loosely to show off the legs, top with a high neckline that emphasizes the shoulders and neck, and a stylish palm print pattern that works well with all skins types… even pale girls like me.
