I’ve already discussed that I recently started a new job where the dress code is business casual, so I’ve been working on building up my work wardrobe. I had the opportunity to try Ministry of Supply– a performance dress wear company offering engineer tested work wear essentials. This company has literally used science to create garments that offer the highest functionality to get you through your work day. Everything from breathability to care. Not only that, Ministry of Supply’s men’s and women’s styles are simple and chic. These pieces are perfect for work, especially when I have an important meeting where I’ll be speaking. I don’t have to worry that a nervous sweat will ruin my look.
I recently started a new job, and for the first time in years I was expected to “dress up” for work. For the last few years I’ve been working for tech companies where office attire is totally casual. While I did always try to look put together at those jobs, I still wore jeans most days. All of my old business clothes from previous positions had long been sold or donated, so business attire was seriously lacking in my closet. One quick and affordable solution was to hit up Target’s new brands to stock up on work wear (read more about that here). But to be perfectly honest, I felt a little out of the loop on what to wear to work. I haven’t had to dress like that in so long, I wasn’t sure what I would like and what would look good. I needed a little inspiration. That’s when I decided to try Stitch Fix. I loved the idea of having my stylist do the thinking for me since I wasn’t exactly sure what I wanted. And I’m so happy I did!
Now that summer is officially over, I’m ready to go full force with fall trends. As I started shopping for new fall pieces this year, I actually ended up stocking up quite a few pieces with Target’s new brand: A New Day as well as Who What Wear. Both brands are offering cute, quality, on-trend items at great prices. I was already a big Target fan (who isn’t?), but usually shopped there for mostly home supplies and a few beauty staples. I only occasionally shopped clothing. Not anymore. With these new brands, Target will definitely be a go-to now for my closet. It’s hard to argue with the prices, and again, I can’t emphasize enough how pleased I am with the quality and styles being offered. If you haven’t yet checked out these new brands, I would encourage you to stop by Target soon so you can see them for yourself in person!
I can’t believe the official end of summer is this week. In Portland, it always feels like it goes by too quick. It rained heavily for the first time today, and while it’s good for the wildfires that are still burning in the Gorge, I couldn’t help but feel a bit sad for the sun and warm weather is coming to a close. I wish I lived in a place that I could wear dresses like this during the day year round.
I love trends! I’m definitely not a capsule wardrobe type of gal, although I do love and appreciate that style (not to mention having a little collection of capsule pieces). I can’t deny how much fun trends can be though. I’ll be the first to admit that staying on top of friends can get expensive. Each season, I try to evaluate which trends I love the most and incorporate those into my wardrobe, rather than trying to buy and wear every singe trend. Also, one thing that crucial is looking for affordable alternatives to trend pieces you may only get to wear a few times. I’m in love with the lace-up suede mini-skirt trend, and this one from Romwe couldn’t be more perfect at a price of $17.99. I love the edginess of the lace-up detail and the flattering fit of the skirt. Working this cute trend into my outfit with some of my other staple fall pieces, like a cozy sweater and booties, is perfect for my style and my wallet!
Happy Friday! I think we can all agree that Friday is usually the best day of the week. One nice thing is you may get to dress a little more casually for work on Friday if your office allows you to wear jeans. This look was made for a “casual Friday” but also works great if you work in a casual office and still want to look put together. For the past few years, I’ve been working for tech companies that have a casual dress code. I still try and put together a nice look for work, even though I’m wearing jeans. This blazer is perfect because it has such a nice cut and fit. Adding nice accessories, like the Rececca Minkoff watch I’m wearing and the Kate Spade earrings, elevate the overall look and give it a nice touch. Pick a cute pair of booties and a nice handbag and you’ve got a perfect look for work on a casual Friday while still looking professional and put together.
I was recently part of a pop up fundraising event with a fashion show by local Portland designers Myriam Marcela and Ayumi Angel. The event featured not only fashion but a dinner by local chef, Keith Morris, at the beautiful Coopers Hall space in SE Portland. The evening was to benefit the Portland-Guadalajara Sister City Association– a local organization that helps low-income families that have children with autism. Both designers are from Guadalajara, and the menu was inspired by food from the region. It was such a special event to be a part of and so much fun getting to walk in a show.
Summer seems to have flown by. It always feels like it comes and goes quickly in Portland, given that our “rainy season” is normally about 8-9 months out of the year. It’s still very warm outside, though, so I am loving this versatile silk skirt since it’s great for hot weather but still has hints of fall with it’s color scheme. This skirt is an excellent transition piece for fall, as it can easily be paired with a cozy sweater and ankle boots when temperatures cool down. This is also a great skirt to wear to work with a nice shirt and flats. I paired it here with a simple white tee, jean jacket, and boots for the perfect look for strolling around Portland’s lovely tree-lined NW 23rd Ave. This is exactly what I plan to do with my long weekend. Relax and enjoy beauty of summer in Portland.

I had a blast last weekend at the Zappos Roadshow block party in Downtown Portland. We went on Saturday and made it a family outing. The event was pet-friendly, so we were able to bring both our dogs along for the fun. We enjoyed mimosas and tacos while listening to music and playing games. Everyone had a great time! There was a great turnout, and people seemed to be having as much fun as us. The event was a way for Zappos to give back to the Portland community, and they also offered free pet adoptions. Pretty awesome, huh? As someone who is so supportive of pet adoption from personal experience, I’m really happy to come be part of such a fun event for a good cause. Check out highlights from the events and details on my outfit.
Over the last few years, I’ve become much more serious about my skin care routine. I cringe now when I think back to my early twenties and how often I would go to bed without even washing my face (gross I know!). I definitely have become much more disciplined about skin care, and now more than invest in quality products that actually deliver results. I’ve been obsessed with Rodial’s skincare and beauty line. Rodial is a celebrity-loved skincare and beauty brand that offers high-performance products that have unique and powerful ingredients. I’ve recently tried a few of their cult favorites, and I’m IN LOVE!
