August Sunset

katie cockerill

Wild fires have been creating a haze all over Portland for over a week now. Not great during the day, but a nice side effect has been a stunning bright orange sunset each evening. Late summer is when those beautiful burnt colors come out everywhere. August is that special time when summer isn’t quite almost over but also not just beginning. It’s the time to cherish summer at it’s peak and really live in the moment.

This outfit is perfect for those summer sunset vibes. It’s not fall yet, so don’t even say the words Pumpkin Spice Latte! The blouse has pretty burnt colors and an interesting cut and fit. I’m also loving all the denim skirts that have been taking over this spring and summer. This is actually the first one I’ve bought, and I’m super happy with it. It fits well and is the perfect length and wash. It’s a “step-hem” so there’s a fun little trend detail too.

We shot this look at the Powell Butte Nature Park in SE Portland. There are big open fields with tons of wildflowers, as well as hiking trails in the woods. Check the park out if you live in the area. It’s a bit under the radar, but definitely worth it whether you want a full-blown hike or just a pleasant stroll while watching a summer sunset.
